The Concours des Ligers is a wine competition that has been awarding the best wines of the Loire Valley every year since 1995.This year, our organic Saumur Blanc La Jouvencelle is proud to be awarded a beautiful Silver medal.
The Concours des Ligers: an annual event
If you are a fan of one of the many appellations that border the royal river, you will certainly be familiar with the Concours des Ligers, which takes place every year in Angers on the eve of the Loire Valley Wine Trade Fair (Salon des Vins de Loire).
For its 28th edition, due to the health context, the Loire Valley Wine Trade Fair had to be postponed to 2022. Fortunately, the Concours des Ligers was able to withstand the Covid crisis and took place on 30 January 2021!
A competition dedicated to the wines of the Loire
The Loire vineyards cover 1000 km from Nantes to Clermont Ferrand, which means a great diversity of appellations, grape varieties and terroirs! In the end, no less than 2550 samples of wines (white, red, rosé, bubbles…) were tasted at the Concours des Ligers 2021.
La Jouvencelle: a pure chenin organic Saumur Blanc
Among the winners is our 100% chenin organic Saumur Blanc, La Jouvencelle 2020. In the family of Domaine de Rocheville wines (La Dame, Le Roi, La Favorite…), La Jouvencelle is the youngest. Proof, to quote Corneille, that to the well-born, talent does not wait for the number of years, it was honoured with a Silver Liger!
Don’t be fooled by its youth, La Jouvencelle, so named because it is a lively and fruity wine, nevertheless offers a beautiful aromatic intensity and a substance that gives it body while underlining its freshness.
Privileged terroir and traditional vinification
Very representative of the Saumur Blanc appellation, it expresses the qualities of its clay-limestone terroir to perfection. It must be said that Chenin has been flourishing for centuries on the Parnay plateau, on the banks of the Loire, where it benefits from a very favourable microclimate.
In addition to these ideal natural conditions, we take meticulous care of the vines, aiming to control the yields to increase the quality of the juice. The Chenin grapes are harvested by hand when fully ripe and La Jouvencelle is vinified in a traditional way with fermentation and ageing in oak barrels.
The best food and wine pairing with La Jouvencelle
Ideal as an aperitif, it can also be enjoyed with seafood, grilled fish, a tajine with preserved lemon, goat cheese (from Touraine, of course!) and in many other circumstances…
Thanks to the natural acidity of the Chenin grape, La Jouvencelle can be kept for almost 7 years in a good cellar.
Don’t hesitate to come and taste it at the winery and take the opportunity to discover our other white Saumur wines. The wines of the Loire have so many good surprises in store for us!
