Le Fou du Roi
Le Fou du Roi: a Loire cabernet franc with a touch of madness
Out of the usual registers of the Saumur Champigny appellation, Le Fou du Roi (The Jester) is a troublemaker who will surprise and seduce red wine lovers.
This exceptional wine, made only when the vintage allows it, pushes the limits of the Cabernet Franc.
It stands out by its strength and complexity, while offering a very velvety feeling and with a multitude of long-lasting aromas of black fruits, spices and roasting.
A long aging in oak barrels (24 months minimum) and a long rest in the cellar give the “Fou du Roi” a tasty woodiness and concentration. The intensity and complexity of its aromas is balanced by a nice acidity and a melted tannin.
It is a very accomplished wine with a long-lasting flavor and a great aging potential.
A beautiful red wine at your table
It brightens up red meats (beef, game), roasted or stewed, game or dishes in sauce. You will appreciate it on aiguillettes or duck breasts, Baeckeoffe , stuffed quails, tournedos. It goes crazy with cheeses: taste it with a soft Camembert, or simply as a “meditation wine” by the fire…
It must be decanted; it is sometimes even better the next day!
