Les Hauts de Bourreau
Les Hauts de Bourreau, a Saumur Champigny wine aged in stoneware eggs !
This red wine is made from old vines of Cabernet Franc that grow on the plot of the same name on the Parnay plateau, in the Loire Valley.
Les Hauts de Bourreau 2022 is a unique, limited edition cuvee. It is the second Rocheville wine to be aged in Limoges stoneware eggs for nearly one year in our troglodytic cellars.
Why age a red wine in an egg?
The originality of this ceramic container (one egg contains 225 litres of wine) lies in its ovoid shape, which causes the formation of a vortex and favours the natural micro-oxygenation of the wine.
Maturing Saumur Champigny in eggs brings finesse, elegance and a velvety texture. It highlights the aromas of the grape variety without the mark of wood.
Les Hauts de Bourreau 2022 will be a pleasure to drink with white meat in sauce (poultry fricassee with ceps), an assortment of cow’s milk cheeses (a Brie de Melun for example) and savoury pies, such as a chanterelle and trumpet of death pie.
It will also be superb with roast veal or lamb.
This astonishing Saumur Champigny was produced in very small quantities: only 1191 numbered bottles. To be drunk within five years, it is perfect to treat yourself right away!
