On Sunday 20th June, come and share a friendly and festive moment in the vineyards of Saumur Champigny with Domaine de Rocheville’s team during the Picnic at the Independent Winegrower’s.

What is an Independent Winegrower ?

An independent winegrower is a winegrower who cultivates the vines, makes his own wine and markets it himself. In brief, unlike a wine merchant or a cooperative, he does everything, from the vine to the bottle !

Since 1976, the Vignerons Indépendants de France (V.I.F.) union has been bringing together private wine cellars across France to promote and defend the winegrowing profession. Today, the union has nearly 7000 members!

What is the Picnic at the Independent Winegrower’s ?

French people call it “Pique-nique chez le Vigneron Indépendant”. It is a French national event created in 2010 which allows all wine lovers, whether they are neophytes or experienced, to go once a year to meet a wine producer in their region and to better understand his job. With family or friends, it is the assurance of a federative and authentic moment in the nature, to discover the French vineyard and those who make it live.

The concept is simple : visitors bring their own picnic while the winegrower opens his doors to them, lets them taste his wine and organises a few activities.

When and how does it happen ?

The dates in 2021

Usually, the picnic at the Independent Winegrower’s takes place on Whitsun weekend, but since 2019, the organisation has been slightly disrupted by the health constraints linked to the Covid epidemic. For its eleventh edition, the weekend of 18th to 20th June 2021 has been chosen, with each winegrower free to receive the public over one, two or three days.

The picnic at Domaine de Rocheville

Book your Sunday to discover or rediscover the wines and the world of Rocheville on 20th June 2021 from 10am to 5pm.

In Parnay, 8 km away from Saumur, in the heart of the Saumur Champigny appellation, sit on the beautiful panoramic terrace overlooking the Loire and the Parnay valley. Enjoy the view and relax !

You just have to bring your picnic, we lend you tablecloths and parasols and share some good wines with you…

You will also be able to enjoy our program for the day. With bread, French cheese and wine, we will be able to celebrate the French heritage among epicureans (always respecting the sanitary measures).
