About Magic
A light and festive organic rosé Pet-Nat
CATEGORY
Grape variety
Location
On the hillside of Parnay, along the Saumur Wine Route in the Loire Valley
Terroir
This cuvée draws its freshness from sandy and clay-rich soils formed from ancient rocks shaped by the natural erosion of the hillsides. Light and well-drained, these soils preserve the freshness of the Cabernet Franc and bring out a fruit-forward, lively and vibrant rosé Pet-Nat.
Vineyard management and harvesting
The Cabernet Franc vines used to produce Magic are cultivated with the utmost respect for the environment.
Since 2005, the vineyard has been managed using sustainable farming practices, with Terra Vitis certification obtained in 2011, followed by a conversion to organic farming that began in 2016.
In practice, this means maintaining natural grass cover between the rows, working the soils mechanically and paying constant attention to biodiversity. The vines are tended with a measured approach, including short pruning to naturally control yields and encourage greater concentration in the grapes.
The grapes are mechanically harvested, allowing us to pick quickly at the ideal moment and preserve the fruit’s freshness.
The goal is simple: to harvest healthy, expressive Cabernet Franc grapes bursting with energy.
Magic is produced in limited quantities, with only 1,200 to 1,500 bottles made. This organic Pet-Nat is the result of careful viticulture, created to offer immediate, vibrant and spontaneous enjoyment.
Vinification and maturing
The grapes first undergo a short period of skin contact lasting a few hours, which gives the juice its beautiful salmon-pink colour. The grapes are then gently pressed at low pressure in a pneumatic press.
The resulting juice ferments at a low temperature to preserve all its freshness.
The wine’s natural sparkle comes from the ancestral method, a traditional approach to producing naturally sparkling wines without the addition of sugar or yeast.
Unlike the traditional method used to make Crémant, the wine is bottled before alcoholic fermentation has completely finished. Fermentation then continues in the bottle, naturally capturing the CO₂ produced during the process.
The result is a wine with less effervescence than traditional sparkling wines, fine bubbles, moderate alcohol and more pronounced fruit aromas.
The story behind the label
The Magic label was specially designed by the talented Saumur artist Marilyn Mac Gregor.
It features the iconic Château de Saumur and a guinguette on the banks of the Loire, a symbol of the festive spirit of our rosé Pet-Nat!
Storage
Pet-Nat is best enjoyed young, ideally within two years of the vintage.
Sensory discovery
Appearance
Its bright, pale colour with delicate salmon-pink hues makes Magic an inviting choice for aperitifs with family and friends throughout the year, as well as for sunny-day picnics.
Bouquet
Made from 100% Cabernet Franc, Magic charms with delicious aromas of strawberry and English candy. Red berry notes mingle with a delicate touch of citrus, creating an immediate sensation of freshness. An expressive and joyful cuvée, perfect for welcoming the first rays of sunshine.
Palate
The palate is lively from the outset, carried by an explosion of fine, delicate bubbles. Strawberry and redcurrant take centre stage, supported by a subtle hint of grapefruit that extends the freshness. Light, crisp and deliciously fruity, it is the kind of wine that makes you want to come back for another glass!
Wine and food pairing advice from the winegrower
Magic is the perfect companion for convivial occasions. As an aperitif, it pairs beautifully with smoked salmon toasts, light tapas or prawns with a touch of grapefruit and avocado. It also brings freshness and vibrancy to a summer salad scattered with pomegranate seeds.
In summer, it naturally finds its place alongside burrata and fresh figs, melon with cured ham, or an impromptu picnic with friends.
With cheese, it creates a lovely balance with fresh goat’s cheese, particularly when coated with cranberries, echoing its red-fruit character.
Magic is also a wonderful dessert pairing: rhubarb tart, strawberry soup, red-berry panna cotta, red-berry tiramisu or a traditional winemaker’s tart all make delightful partners for this light and fruity Pet-Nat.
Serve well chilled, between 6 and 8°C, to preserve its energy and the finesse of its bubbles.
