At Domaine de Rocheville, 2022 is a year for combining visual art and wine , two pleasures that go together perfectly! Pierre Fuentès kicks off the artistic season with an astonishing double photo exhibition.
Domaine de Rocheville and Le Cactus Bleu: two exhibition venues in the Loire Valley
Since it has been constructed in 2014, the wine estate Domaine de Rocheville regularly lends the walls of its large tasting room, from June to September, to a wide range of artists: painters, photographers, draughtsmen… from the region or further afield.
This year, Rocheville’s artistic vocation is confirmed. The estate has built partnership with the guest house and art gallery Le Cactus Bleu, in Reugny (Indre et Loire), with the aim of jointly organising exhibitions all year round.
After the photographs of Michèle Lepeintre, Alain Campo Paysaa and Philippe Siriot on the theme of biodiversity in 2021, then the abstract paintings of Denis Charrier last winter, the Domaine de Rocheville is pleased to welcome the works of Pierre Fuentès, a photographer from Tours.
From 1 April to 11 June, twenty of his photographs will be exhibited in our glassed-in reception room, which has become an exhibition space for the occasion: the “Sublimation” series, supplemented from May by the “Waves” (Vagues) series.
Who is Pierre Fuentès?
An experienced photographer, Pierre Fuentès began to take an interest in silver photography in the 1980s. His pictures of Japan, where he lived for a long time, gave an intimate view of Japanese society.
The advent of digital photography revolutionised his artistic approach. Combined with the discovery of macro photography, it opened up immense possibilities, of which the “Sublimation” and “Waves” series are the perfect illustration.
By enlarging his photographs, Pierre Fuentès reveals, through post-production and printing, colours and textures that are invisible at first glance. This is the meaning of the title of his exhibition, “Sublimation”, which in physics represents the direct passage from a solid state to a gaseous state.
Like an alchemist, the photographer offers a different vision of the object that invites the discovery of hidden elements. He encourages the visitor to seek his own interpretation of what he is looking at.
“I want to magnify the everyday, to tell people: look around you and use your imagination, beauty, as Baudelaire so well expressed it, can be hidden in what at first sight seems ugly”, quotes Pierre Fuentes.
